Is Bracken trying to stir things up or is he just being dense?

RON BRACKENIrish boast status PSU yearns for CDT

Notre Dame has what Penn State wants — the status that goes with the most storied tradition in the history of the game.

Whiskey tango foxtrot?

I am a relatively new fan to Penn State football — 2006 will be my 12th season following the Nittany Lions. In those 12 seasons, not once have I ever heard anyone wearing blue and white say they want to be more like Notre Dame. Not once. I don’t know what Bracken is thinking. This column looks like it was written by some out of touch Notre Dame fanboy, not a longtime veteran of the Penn State beat.

Being a Penn State grad means you don’t have to say “I wish we were more like…” any other football program. The excellence of the program over the last several generations is self evident.

Notre Dame resents Penn State’s relatively late ascension to the upper echelon of college football.

Who resents Penn State, the legions of “subway alumni” — those poseurs who did not go to Notre Dame (and may not have even visited the state Indiana where the university is located) but claim to be diehards because some ancestor was Irish-Catholic? Joe Queenan, I’m looking at you.

I think if the Notre Dame boosters resent anything it must be Penn State’s winning. Since the Irish last won a bowl game, Penn State has won six, despite having the worst run since the 1930s in Happy Valley. The only way Notre Dame even comes close to that kind of number is if you count up all the coaches they have hired in the last decade.

What an inane column, I feel a little guilty for validating it with this post.
