WWN PENN STATE POSTGAME #5

VS.

#21/19 Penn State Nittany Lions 20 Illinois Fighting Illini 27

  • That was awful, wasn’t it?
  • I liked the play calling on the first drive. This how the Lions should have opened against Michigan.
  • The offense seemed to be offended by the Illinois side of the field.
  • Sloppy, sloppy tackling today. The defense did adjust well at half-time. They gave up 20 points, not great but okay.
  • Evan Royster needs to get some carries — maybe he won’t fumble.
  • Anthony Morelli just doesn’t have it. Three INTs and one fumble. He has a rocket arm, but he can’t seem to control it. It is a shame because I think he has been sold short by coaches at the high school and college level. However, the rumors that he is taunting opposing fans and yelling a defensive coaches are more troubling than anything else.
  • P Jeremy Boone continues to impress.
  • At least Austin Scott didn’t fumble.
  • Just an overall discouraging game. Yet, I still want to buy four tickets for next week’s game.

Chico Plays Big Role In Divisional DramaThe Post

Nats make Phillies nervousThe Wash. Times

Matt Chico denied the Phillies yesterday, allowing only run over six innings. That was win 73 for Washington. The loss puts Philadelphia in a first place tie with the Mets.

The Nats will likely have the same coaching staff (The Post) next year (The Wash. Times).

“Rarely has mediocrity been deemed so glorious” — Barry Svrluga has a review of the Nats 2007 season (The Post).

Thomas Boswell was actually at the game yesterday and wrote a column about it.

I watched the wrong game yesterday.

I wonder how good that half-smoke that Cliff won will taste if the Nats beat the Phillies today and the Mets win too. I’ll be a good friend and not call him should Washington win.

    WWN PENN STATE PREGAME #5

    VS.

#21/19 Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

    LAST WEEK

    We lost to Michigan. Again.

    THIS WEEK

Real life got in the way of blogging. Sort and sweet: Penn State bounces back over a decent Illinois squad in an ugly game. My prediction Penn State 24 Illinois 16. Penn State fans exhale.

    GO STATE BEAT ILLINI!

    Happy Goose Day

Every year Mifflin Co., Penna. residents celebrate Michaelmas or St. Michael’s Day in their own unique way — Goose Day. Erica, a native of those parts, has decided that we will observe the tradition this year. Erica adds:

The belief is that if you eat roast goose on Goose Day, you will have good financial luck in the coming year, and by Goose Day Next you will be $1,000.00 richer.

I’m all for that, but I wonder when that number was decided. Has Goose Day adjusted for inflation? Is that gross or net?

    More to come.

Hamles shuts out Nats; meet your 2009 Manny-ger

PHILADELPHIA 6 Washington 0 (CBS Sports Boxscore)

Phils Move Into 1st Place With VictoryThe Post

    Phillies blank NationalsThe Wash. Times

P Cole Hamles dominated Washington, Citizens Bank Park was full and the Mets lost, so the Phillies are alone in first place with two games to go. The Nats meanwhile still need one victory or Marlins loss to stay out of first place.

Manny Acta had his contract extended (The Post) for the 2009 season. Perhaps talk of Acta being on the Mets radar spooked the Nats into making what I think is a rash decision. Acta was signed through next year with a club option, why rush it? As Capital Punishment noted, Acta has not really been held responsible for game managment this year.

Thom Loverro wants to apologize (The Wash. Times) for all the things he said about the Nats this year. Loverro acknowledges apologizing to Jim Bowden is the hardest part. Has/will Stan Kasten go after him too?

Dmitri Young might not be done (The Wash. Times) for the season after all. Don’t forget that today’s game is on FOX at 3:55.
