Beano Watch: 10.15.2008
Carroll H. Cook ('54 Pitt) is damning Penn State yet again.J.B. (Dunmore, PA): Mr. Cook: I swore I heard you on ESPN Radio today say Penn State would play in the BCS title game. Did I hear you correctly?Oh Q@#$&$! Why Beano, why?
SportsNation Beano Cook: Absolutely.
Steve (Heshey PA): Beano - Joe goes, if Penn State wins it all this year?Hard to disagree with anything he is saying here, which is scary in and of itself. Not as scary as the first statement, but still scary.
SportsNation Beano Cook: I think a lot depends on his health. If Joe feels like he can physically do the job he will be back. Penn State will be better next year than they are this year. Penn State's football program makes up for the fact that Penn State does not have a men's basketball program.
Kim (Louisville, KY): Beano, I hear you predicted an Alabama-PSU national championship for 2009...do do you think your chances are of being right a year early? I love the idea of an old-school NC matchup! This years seems more likely than next, though, because of 80% of the offensive line and the top three WRs are seniors this year.
SportsNation Beano Cook: Well No. 1 let me say that my pick for 2009 can be changed. But at that moment I went with those teams. Next year Alabama's shcedule is more favorable and Penn State plays in a conference that is not that strong and their non-conference is ludicrous. But yes, it could happen this year.
Jaocb ((Columbus, Ohio)): Can the Bcukeyes beat Penn State this year?Do we want to face an angry Buckeyes team at home, at night after a loss? No, not really, but it didn't seem to matter for Wisky.
SportsNation Beano Cook: They can but they won't. I actually think Ohio State will lose on Saturday.
Kory (Denver, CO): Would OSU have a better chance beating PSU with Boeckman over Pryor at QB?Interesting, two one-loss teams are better than Penn State, but not an undefeated one, according to Beano.
SportsNation Beano Cook: You would have to ask Tressel that. I am not sure, to be honest. I think the only advantage OSU has over Penn State is the location of the game. The only two teams, in my opinion, that are better than Penn State are Florida and USC and maybe Texas. I do not think Alabama is one of those teams.
eo (Cedar City, UT): If Alabama, Texas, and Penn State remain undefeated (I know this is almost impossible but work with me) who plays in the championship game?If history is any indication, Beano is correct if it comes to that, though I don't expect it to.
SportsNation Beano Cook: Texas and Alabama. Easy answer.
SportsNation Beano Cook: But it will not happen. either Texas or Alabama will lose a game.
Here is a bonus one for the Ombudsman, keeping in mind this chat was yesterday:
Cosmo (Anytown, USA): Do the Phillies close out the Dodgers tonight? As a Phillies fan and considering your record this year, please say 'no'.Well, how did that work out?
SportsNation Beano Cook: Thanks for the confidence! I look for the Dodgers to win it tonight. It looks like it is going to be the Phillies and Rays in the World Series, though. Philadelphia is a great sports town and in many ways they deserve a World Series.
