Penn State’s Rose Bowl opponent not = Oregon State (probably)

Masoli’s 3 touchdowns lead Ducks to victory in rivalry gameAP/ESPN
Oregon State got crushed by Oregon yesterday in the Civil War, so they probably will not be Penn State’s Rose Bowl opponent.

Inky beat-writer Jeff McLane has the scenarios — basically, if USC beats UCLA next weekend, they are the Pac-10′s Rose Bowl team. If they don’t, Oregon State backs in.

Be careful what you wish for? Personally, I want Penn State to face a serious challenge. I think they can beat anybody when they play their game.

It turns out that the “not equal sign” ≠ does not work in Blogger titles.

New Nationals Park address?

Nationals may play ball on Taxation Without Representation Street if Council has its wayThe Wash. Examiner
The DC Council may rename the part of South Capitol Street that Nationals Park is located on to Taxation Without Representation Street. The District is doing what it can to tie the ballpark into the lack of meaningful Congressional representation for District residents.

When the council created the lease, they should have written into the legislation a way to put up a Taxation Without Representation sign somewhere on the ballpark. Ultimately, the goal of this action may be to coerce the Lerner family to put up a Taxation Without Representation sign somewhere on the ballpark, like the one at RFK Stadium. I don’t see either side working well together on this one though.

i-99 finally opened yesterday, but…

I-99 open to all trafficCDT
i-99 is now a continous route between just north of the I-70/76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) near Bedford and near I-80 north of Bellefonte. The new section, opened yesterday (two days after the last Penn State football game naturally), does not have all four lanes open though.

Former Rep. Bud Shuster, who pushed for i-99 and got the designation written into law (setting precedent and expanding the role of Congress) was at the opening. Apparetly, left unsaid was an apology to drivers and taxpayers for legislating away envirornmental testing. The highway was delayed for years and ran up about $80 million of extra cost due to necessary environmental remediation. It is said he has not been accountable at all for his behavior.

Miss Virginia was the Lady Icers goalie

The reigning Miss Virginia, Tara Wheeler, is not only a Penn State alumna (’06 Journ), but a former goalie for the Penn State women’s hockey team, the Lady Icers. On Frozen Blog has been featuring her recently:

On Line, Tara’s Terrific Tale Broadens

Tara Wheeler, Local Girl, Beauty Pageant Winner, Miss America Contestant, Star College Hockey Goalie, Nothing To See Here, Move Along

She has gotten the Capitals attention as well, she’ll be involved in several functions with them in the near future.

Paterno gets new hip; Rally in the Vally speech

Joe Paterno celebrated Penn State’s Big11Ten title by getting his hip replaced yesterday. The operation was apparently successful. He may be back on his feet today. Get well coach!

I suggest we take coach’s old hip and make it the new Land Grant Trophy as it would be an improvement over the original one.

Here is the speech he gave at Rally in the Vally on Friday night:

No chance they were losing on Saturday after that speech.

Roses for the Lions

PB220007
Penn State won the Big11Ten! Everything is coming up roses! The Nittany Lions throttled Michigan State 49-18. It seems like everyone we know was at the game, but e watched it over at my parents house with a nice warm fire. We had a great time, though a Yale win would have been nice too.

Penn State claims share of Big 10 title, spot in Rose BowlThe Collegian
PSU POUNDS SPARTANSCDT
I really overestimated Michigan State. That is fine, I like to be wrong this way.

Of course, there was a little celebrating…

A toast to the Big11Ten Champions!
