Nationals rookie Craig Stammen gave up a RBI double to Todd Helton and then nothing else through seven innings. The problem was his opposite number, Jason Marquis, gave up nothing over eight. The Nats loaded the bases twice, but could not get anyone home in the thin Colorado air. Both bullpens held up their end and Washington became the 11th team to lose a decision to the resurgent Marquis.
That Post headline makes me think of the MST3K riff, “By this time my lungs were aching for air.”
