Horvath slams Intercollegiate Athletics for making Penn State college football’s elite for raising revenue and bricks-and-mortar, but not on the field. The scheduling is specifically called out. There are lot more truths in column than we may want to admit.

  1. He makes some good points, but I'm tired of the scheduling argument. Yes, the schedule is terrible, but does anybody really think that if they had scheduled say, Alabama and USC this year instead of the two gimmies, that they would still be 8-2? No, they'd be 6-4.

    Besides, their non-conference schedule last year was filled with cupcakes and they still managed to win in Columbus, so that argument doesn't hold water. The fact is they just weren't good enough. Period.

    Oh, I don't think 80% of the commonwealth is dying to see Pitt vs. PSU. Maybe 80% of Pittsburgh residents, though I doubt the number would be that high even for Pitt fans.
