Penn State: Walk-on Tom Golarz is playing through liver disease

Until this morning I was somehow unaware of Tom Golarz. The Penn State walk-on special teams player is on the team despite living with sclerosing cholangitis, the same liver disease that killed Walter Payton. Golarz was diagnosed at 17, so he is hoping he can live a long enough for better treatments to help him out. A transplant is likely someday, but he is hoping to avoid it.
Look for #39 in tomorrow during the Capital One Bowl, that’s Golarz.
