Harrisburg/Hershey, home to two D.C. farm teams, is #1 minor league market again

The Harrisburg, Pa. market, which includes Hershey, has been named the #1 minor league market by Sports Business Journal. It had that distinction in 2009 as well. The Harrisburg Senators AA-Eastern League baseball team are an affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The Hersey Bears are the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals. While the Bears, the oldest team in the AHL, have been a model minor league franchise, the Harrisburg Senators only recently ascended to “beloved” status in their market. A rebuilt ballpark on City Island, new highly motivated, responsive ownership has made it happen. (Patriot-News).

I went to the old ballpark (but didn’t blog about it for some reason) in 2006 — Kory Casto was the star that year. I have yet to make it to a Bears game which I really need to correct one of these winters. I also need to go ice skating in the old barn, the Hersheypark Arena.

I figure my friends in and from Harrisburg already know this stuff, but wouldn’t mind a reminder, especially since City Island got flooded again.
