Google Maps already showing new route 294 on Prince William Parkway
The news that several Northern Virginia county parkways would get new state route numbers only broke in the last few days and already Google Maps has the new Prince William Parkway route number, 294, posted. The original number, 3000, is still shown as well.
That was fast! Maybe too fast since the numbers won’t be posted on the parkway just yet. Yesterday, on the WWN Facebook page, one commenter wondered how long until her GPS would be updated with the new roads.
I will keep my eye on Google Maps the new numbers on the Fairfax County Parkway and Franconia-Springfield Parkway.
UPDATE: The new route number has been removed by Google Maps as of March 3, 2012
Thinking about it a little more, the entire Prince William Parkway ought to be Route 294 — the northern most portion near Manassas became a relocated Route 234 upon the PW Parkway’s completion. The original Route 234 near Manassas is Business Route 234 — that should be restored.
