Nats vs. Cubs prediction & DC vs. Chicago all-sports playoff history

Washington Nationals celebrate an Opening Day victory
Tonight, the National League Division Series B begins at Nationals Park on TBS (followed by Red Sonja or Beastmaster, right?). The Washington Nationals (97-65), Eastern division champions, host the Central division winners and defending World Champions, the Chicago Cubs (92-70). This is the first matchup between the two teams in the postseason. The Nats took the season series 4-3, splitting in DC in June and taking 2 of 3 at Wrigley Field in August.

Winner gets to claim Mumbo Sauce rights?

Dusty Baker reputation for coolness was solidified as the Nats overcame injuries, a hazmat situation of a bullpen before the deadline and won 97 games. Hazleton, Pa. native Joe Maddon, victorious as Northside manager remained…a weird wuss.

I think the Nats pull it off. This is the best team they have had with heroes from throughout the dugout all season, have matched up well against the Cubs and have Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer starting pending successful hamstring rehabilitation. I think Trea Turner is the key and expect him to run all over the Cubbies when he gets on-base.

It will be nerve-racking, but I think they do it in 4 games. Let’s try optimism for a change.

Since FDR’s administration, Washington teams have faced Chicago in the NFL, NBA and MLS playoffs. The nation’s capital leads the Windy City 6-5.
