This Web site, WFY2000, has been
created to inform and entertain, as well as
give me a creative outlet to express myself
and my Web skills. Of all the media I have
ever tried, I find the Web my favorite.
This site has evolved to its present
position over the course of four years. My
first site, long since removed from the Penn State
Hazleton server, was uploaded on
1996/02/16.
GeoCities and Lookup.com (I
don't think it exists anymore) also hosted
my site, with GeoCities being the host for
over two years.
Yurasko.net, hosted by pair
Networks , was established 1998/11/11.
The most recent major overhaul was over
1999 Labor Day weekend, which I have
referred to as The Eighth Generation Web
site of William F. Yurasko. Other
portions of WFY2000 have been added
since. On April 22, this site was
christened WFY2000.
Prior to that it was christened WFY2K.
The template for WFY2000 was
originally developed with Netscape
Composer, but shortly thereafter it became
strictly maintained by "hand-coded" HTML. I
found that while Composer was quick, the
limitations to be frusturating to work with
and sometimes incompatible with other
browsers.
Starting 2000/02/13 the site began the
transition to
XHTML 1.0, starting with the
main
page. I accomplished this using
HTML-Kit and HTML Tidy, availible from the
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Pages (Including this page) showing the "W3C XHTML 1.0"
seal have been validated by W3C.
Since I have switched to "hand-coded" HTML
and now XHTML, the primary site should look
fine regardless of platform. I have tested
it on both Netscape 4.0 and Microsoft
Internet Explorer 4.0 on Windows 95/98/NT
and Mac platforms. I have not yet tested it
on UNIX boxes or Web TV. Secondary parts of
WFY2000, including The
Beltway @ Yurasko.net and the
Double V Campaign have yet to be tested
or converted, but should be in the near
future. The computers that I use to create
this site have mainly been Intel Pentiums,
especially my own 75 MHz (circa 1995), but
also Pentium II and III's in the Penn State
Center for Academic Computing labs with
Netscape as the primary browser. As a
result, WFY2000 will probably look the
best on computers meeting those criteria,
but similar, if not the same on other
platforms and browsers.
The images were created using Adobe
4.0/5.0/5.5. Most of the images are GIFs,
some of the photographs are JPEGs though.
Many of the highway marker images were from
James Lin or based on graphics created by
him.
Time stamps are being added to all pages
beginning on 2000/02/12 as they are
altered.
Many fonts were downloaded from
Larabie Fonts. For simplicity, I use
basic fonts like Arial and Times New Roman,
so your browser will not have trouble
reading them.
Since autumn 1999, I have been using
The Associated Press Stylebook and Libel
Manual, 34th edition, Banta, New York,
as reference for content style.
Funding for WFY2000 and the rest of
Yurasko.net has been provided by William
H. Yurasko , Yurasko Group. If viewers
