This February, I changed my e-mail address. In doing so, I sent out an e-mail to everyone on my recipient list and asked them to respond to my new address and tell me what is their favorite bridge. Most of my recipients responded, and just for fun, I have included responses on the Web.

My own response was the following:

To let me know you are aware of the new address, please send an e-mail to the new address and tell me your favorite bridge. For example, mine is the Delaware Memorial Bridge. It is actually twin supsension spans, very impressive, especially at sunset.

OGP
Bridges of Toko Ri

BMS
It's named after some guy, but I'll always know it as the Raritan Bay Bridge.
Editors note: This is called the Driscoll Bridge, named after Governor Alfred Driscoll, who presided over the creation of the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike.

CJP
Bridge Over Troubled Water

SA
To respond, my favorite bridge is the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge (I-278). From 1964 to 1981, this bridge had the world's longest suspension span, and therefore, as a young admirer of roads and bridges, this was simply the best (at the time).
Editor's Note: SA has a wonderful site, nycroads.com that includes a page about Verrazano-Narrows Bridge

NES
The one over the Charles. I forget what it's called- if you can tell me, I'll be very impressed. It connects Boston and Cambridge.
Editor's Note: This is probably the Longfellow.

STO
Cable-stayed bridge on Route 91 in Vancouver. Magnificent as well.

SLF
Favorite bridge: Chain Bridge... bike trips to Georgetown (from McLean), the fishermen on the Potomac, hiking on the C & O.

EAF
Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, SC. The existing one, not the new one they're planning.

GEF
I don't like bridges
Editor's note: this individual is 20 and does not have a drivers licence either!

MBS
My favorite bridge is knowledge, because with it all of humanity can get along and live happily ever after.

CCS
My favorite bridge is the West Gate in Melbourne, Australia. I've always liked cable-stayed bridges, and this one's a big sucker.
