Nats: Have we heard the last of Charlie and Dave together?

The 2011 Washington Nationals season is over and I miss it. Part of what I miss about the near-daily experience of following the Nats is the radio team of Charlie Slowes and Dave Jageler. Last Wednesday, I was quite grateful to have them as I got stuck working late before driving up to Pennsylvania. I [...]

Redskins owner Dan Snyder drops CityPaper suit

I finally got around to blogging about the Dan Snyder vs. CityPaper/Dave McKenna SLAPP suit the other day after several false starts. The fact that Snyder had not even read the whole article showed that the whole thing was intellectually dishonest.
Last night, around 8 p.m., Snyder announced that the suit would be dropped. So, at [...]

2011 Penn State football beat writers, bloggers and their predictions

This year, rather than just list the beat writers predictions like I did in past years, I figured I’d take it a step farther. I have compiled all the reporters on the Penn State Nittany Lions football beat and linked to their outlet, their blog (if applicable) and their twitter account. I have also included [...]

RIP Pat Boland

Longtime radio broadcaster Pat Boland dies – CDT
Pat Boland, a name and voice familiar to the Penn State and State College communities succumbed to brain cancer. He was 42. I remember Boland mostly for his radio work with Phil Grosz of Blue White Illustrated and pre- and post-game of Nittany Lions games.

What Ken Beatrice has been up to

There are apparently sports talk radio warz going on (visit DC Sports Bog if you really want to find out more) which has me thinking one thing — I miss Ken Beatrice!
For the uninitiated, Beatrice was a long-time host of a sports call-in show on WMAL (back when it was a real local radio station) [...]

NY tabloids: Sorry, Sorry Night for the Yankees

Lots of trouble for the New York Yankees right now — Jorge Posada forgets he’s hitting .185 when complained about hitting 9th. He apologized. The team is in a freefall as well, losing 5 in a row and 9 of 12. Getting swept by the Boston Red Sox is no fun either. Had the Yanks [...]

Welcome back, Washington Times sports

It wasn’t that long ago that Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington and natsinsider.com, reported on what became of his former colleagues from the defunct sports section of The Wash. Times. That section, the only part of that newspaper that I ever read with regularity, was shuttered January 1, 2010 for some reason that never made [...]

STAR-MELO: NY tabloids use same backpage headline

That didn’t take long…
Even though I don’t really follow the NBA and I was getting tired about hearing about Carmleo Anthony being traded from the Denver Nuggets. Anthony’s debut with New York Knickerbockers yielded a win and the same backpage headline on the NY Daily News and NY Post. I guess the latter gets credit [...]

Nats radio likely headed to 106.7 FM, staying on 1500 AM

Good news — The Washington Nationals Radio Network is apparently moving to FM. Nats Insider reports today that 106.7 WJFK aka “The Fan” will start carrying the Nats. Incumbent station, WFED 1500 AM will continue carrying the team as well, even though it is owned by Bonneville (for now) and WJFK is owned by CBS.
While, [...]

Lots of winners in CSN Washington decision to hire Nats beat writer Mark Zuckerman

Mark Zuckerman, who has been on the Washington Nationals beat since their inception, has been hired by Comcast SportsNet Washington to cover the team. His new full-time position comes after nearly year of covering D.C.’s baseball team on his own Web site, natsinsider.com and on a freelance basis for CSN’s Web site, CSNWashington.com.
Zuckerman had been [...]
