When I think of St. Patrick’s Day, I figure there has to be a bar with a Christmas/Easter Protestant who had one Irish grandparent is wearing a green baseball cap of a team that doesn’t normally wear green (i.e. Red Sox) drinking green light beer and rocking out to “Little Lion Man.”
I am a big Muppets fan — the show and The Muppet Movie were fantastic, but efforts since then have seen diminishing returns both creatively and financially. The obvious reason is that several of the creators, including Jim Henson, but also Jerry Juhl died and I think Frank Oz spends about half an afternoon annually with the Muppets. There have also been several changes of ownership, with Disney now owning it — Henson tried to sell the Muppets to Disney 20 years ago. If the original spirit can’t be found, they ought to just end the franchise. If they get it right, how about getting The Muppet Show into production again?
My daily commute to and from my son’s daycare passes two Fairfax County Public Schools, including a high school. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the end of the school year so that I can get just a little break on my morning commute. I don’t know if I will see it today but certainly on Monday there should be some relief.
My choice of songs to celebrate is obvious, but the version might not be:
I think this is the best version of “School’s Out” Alice Cooper ever did. In fact, this is a top 10 episode of The Muppet Show, if not top 5.
