NY tabloids: Sorry, Sorry Night for the Yankees

New York Daily News New York Post

Lots of trouble for the New York Yankees right now — Jorge Posada forgets he’s hitting .185 when complained about hitting 9th. He apologized. The team is in a freefall as well, losing 5 in a row and 9 of 12. Getting swept by the Boston Red Sox is no fun either. Had the Yanks been able to take care of business against the Sawx this season or even split the two series, they would be in first place right now.

So, is there are meeting at the NY Daily News or NY Post whenever the a cover headline is the same? I’d be very curious to find out how the deal with doing exact same thing as their competitor.

STAR-MELO: NY tabloids use same backpage headline

New York Daily News New York Post

That didn’t take long…

Even though I don’t really follow the NBA and I was getting tired about hearing about Carmleo Anthony being traded from the Denver Nuggets. Anthony’s debut with New York Knickerbockers yielded a win and the same backpage headline on the NY Daily News and NY Post. I guess the latter gets credit for the exclamation point. Points off for not having a larger version of the backpage yet though, I’ll see about changing it if/when it becomes available.

It has been a long time since the tabloids had a same headline. Oh and I insist on calling the Madison Square Garden basketball tenant the Knickerbockers, I wish Spike Lee would do the same.

New Yorkers don’t like Clearview street signs

New Yorkers outraged as bureaucrats order city to change lettering on every single street signNY Daily News
$27 million to change NYC signs from all-capsNY Post
All street signs in New York City need to be converted to mixed-case Clearview font by 2018. Steve Anderson of NYCRoads.com summed it up by saying “the capital of the world is going lower-case” — Both tabloids have negative stories on the move away from all-uppercase street signs. The Daily News even makes the new signs the lead on the cover.

Commenters on Anderson’s Facebook profile suggested that reports that Clearview was mandated by Federal Highway Administration maybe incorrect. That mandate may happen in the future though.

I’m skeptical of the claims that mixed-case street makes street signs safer and I can’t stand the Clearview font, even though Penn State had a hand in its development. However, I’ll make an exception for one New York City road — the Clearview Expressway (I-295).

Eli Manning draws First Blood on both NYC tabloids

New York Daily News New York Post

New York Giants QB Eli Manning got destroyed in last night’s preseason game (played in New Jersey) against the New York Jets. He christened the artificial turf at New Meadowlands Stadium with blood gushing from a massive head wound that needed a dozen stitches. The tabloids both had the same though with their backpage headline.

Here is the video (but for how long?):

Of course NYC tabloids went with “Stick it, A-Rod”

New York Daily News New York Post

Yes, it is old, but for posterity I have to put this up even though it was last week. For the record, I thought Alex Rodriguez responded well (“Good for him. He threw a perfect game, and even better, he beat the Rays.”) to being told Dallas Braden threw a perfect game. Better than say, Braden’s grandmother, but whatever, its old news.

As for A-Rod though, even as a Yankees fan I can’t help but find it hysterical that he’ll never be as beloved as … Scott Brosius

Tabloids double up on BIG LEAST

New York Daily News New York Post

Isn’t it though?

It was almost worse too, Villanova needed overtime and refs to beat Robert Morris. Penn State CRUSHED Bobby Mo this season. It is always fun when Notre Dame loses too. I don’t have much of an opening on Georgetown, other than Penn State fans were out cheering at Verizon Center for a good part of a 2004 game.

Oh and I’m in the last place in the bracket I put together. Clearly, the 3 minutes I put into it were a waste.

Sid Vicious: NYC tabs know that Sidney Crosby hates America

New York Daily News New York Post

Yes, diver/whiner Sidney Crosby making the winning shot in overtime for Canada to beat the United States for the gold medal is the worst case scenario. The New York tabloids know this to be true. Look at him up there will the poster boy for birth control expression on his face. Ugh. You couldn’t have made one more save Ryan Miller?

I wonder how many Yinzers were rooting for Canada yesterday.

Zach Parise though, is an American hero.

NJ Nets: Biggest losers on two tabloid backpages, NBA

New York Daily News New York Post

The New Jersey Nets lost their 18th game in a row to start the 2009-2010 NBA season. The ignominious distinction is observed by the backpages of both New York City tabloids today.

I like to think this is happening because the Nets took “NEW JERSEY” off of the road uniforms. Their owner, Bruce Ratner, has been trying to move them to Brooklyn for years and seems to be getting closer. I’d rather they stay in the Garden State and move into the Prudential Center in Newark where the NHL Devils play.

I wonder if the new BS Sports Blog will comment on this development.

Speaking of the NBA, the Washington Wizards have won 4 of 5 (The Post). Where can I get my Earl Boykins jersey?

27TH HEAVEN: NY tabloids celebrate Yankees win with same cover headline

Not surpsingly, editors at both New York City tabloids were thinking the same thing late last night. While the headline seems a little corny, I’m not complaining about it.

They were thinking the same thing on Long Island too.

UPDATE: ESPN did it too:

Apparently deadpsin noticed this stuff too — If this anyone other tan Steve Allen, you’re stealing my bit.
