Game 2: Washington Capitals 3 NEW YORK RANGERS 2

Just getting back from Spring Break in the Grand Stand — I completely missed Game 1 which the Caps lost. They came back to take home-ice advantage away from the Rangers last night though. They went up 2-0, but the Rags came back. Alex Ovechkin scored the game-winner to move the series back to D.C.

That’ll [...]

Game 7: Washington Capitals 2 BOSTON BRUINS 1 (Overtime)

JOEL WARD!
An overtime goal wins it for the Capitals in game 7. Dale Hunter has seen this before.
Big win for the Caps, who looked like they were not going to be a playoff team for large parts of the season and now they have eliminated the defending Stanley Cup Champion on the road. That’s [...]

Boston Bruins 4 WASHINGTON CAPITALS 3 (Overtime)

The Washington Capitals lost a tough, exciting hockey game yesterday. The Boston Bruins scored first, but the Caps got the equalizer. This cycle repeated itself another two times before the Bruins scored again when the Caps had no answer — overtime. It has been a very close series. The crowd sounded great on TV. Good [...]

Washington Capitals 4 BOSTON BRUINS 3

The Caps went up 2-0 and then the Bruins scored twice in about a minute to tie it up, the Caps pulled ahead again and then the Bruins tied it up, but Troy Brouwer scored the game winner at 18:33 in the 3rd period.
The series resumes today in D.C. at 3 p.m. on NBC (Ch. [...]

Game 4: WASHINGTON CAPITALS 2 Boston Bruins 1

Yay Braden Holtby! 44 saves!
This series is going at least six and heads back to Boston for game 5.

Nats can’t sweep Reds series; Astros next; Strasburg tonight

Bad calls helped the Reds take the final game of the serious. Joey Votto thinks that’s Cincinnatitude (both via @MrIrrelevantDC):
Video: Reds dodge sweep in extras
Losing 3 of 4, along with Cinnamon(?) in chili must be Cincinattitude. No thanks.
The Nats still came back, but the game went to extra innings. Tyler Clippard and his sore shoulder [...]

Almost a clean sweep for D.C.: Caps, Nats, DC United all win (Wizards don’t)

Yesterday, three D.C. teams played concurrently and all won — two over Boston area teams. The Washington Capitals beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 in the second overtime in the game 2 of the NHL playoffs to take home ice advantage.
Just minutes earlier, the Washington Nationals beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 behind Edwin Jackson’s complete game [...]

Washington Senators Opening Day 1961

This would have been better last year for the 50th anniversary, but I only found it last September. Kind of hard to believe there was still a newsreel in 1961.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
When I think of St. Patrick’s Day, I figure there has to be a bar with a Christmas/Easter Protestant who had one Irish grandparent is wearing a green baseball cap of a team that doesn’t normally wear green (i.e. Red Sox) drinking green light beer and rocking out to “Little Lion Man.”
