Happy Easter

Site News

I have been busy this weekend coverting the site to WFY2000, replacing the catchy, but antiquated WFY2K. Also, new bottom navigation on all regular features, along with XHTML for those pages that have not yet been converted.

Personal News

I started at Gannett on Tuesday, in the Digital Production Center. I will be building Web sites for small papers in the Gannett group. So far, so good.

Prior to starting with Gannett, I enjoyed what I billed the "Magical Victory Tour." On Thursday of last week, I journeyed to the center of Pennsylvania. I stayed with Erica for a number of days and visited State College. Friday was as close to a perfect day I can recall haivng. During the day, I went over to Penn State and saw a number of my old professors in the Carnegie Building. It was great to return to the College of Communications and see so many people.

Later that day, Erica and I made it to The Deli for dinner. Following that, Star Wars - Episode I, while sitting in the hot tub. Oh yeah. Saturday night, Cliff and I made it to the Big Easy, probably the last time. He will be in the Peace Corps before too long. It was a fabulous trip, befitting of the occasion.

Web News

NY Post - No 3-Letter Domain Names Left Turns out the WWW does have some spectrum scarcity after all.

The Post - POP NOTES: Sue 'Em All: Heavy-metal rock band Metallica has sued song-swap software company Napster Inc. and three universities, alleging they encouraged users to trade songs and recordings without the band's permission. I am eager to hear what profs Drs. Richards, Calvert, and Bettig have to say about this turn of events.

The Onion was really good this week.

Sports News

Saturday, was the Blue White game, the annual intrasquad scrimmage to end spring practice. Blue, my team, beat White, Erica's team, 33 - 28, despite some obvious point shaving at the end of the contest. I am kidding of course, but that did not stop me from pulling out an infamous sign again.

Penn State was well represented in the NFL Draft, with Courtney Brown and Lavar Arrington going first and second. Other Lions also signed as free agents. (goPSUsports.com, The Collegian)

Site of the Week

Another highway site? Yes indeed, this week I present Andy's Highway Kick-off Page, a portal for sites about highways on the Web. Just about every highway Web site is listed, with comments. Maybe I will stop choosing highway sites, but don't press your luck.

Personal News

Since this weekend is the final weekend before beginning my career, I will starting the "Magical Victory Tour." I will be up in Lewistown visiting Erica and in State College visiting Cliff. I will also be attending the Blue White Game, the annual spring scrimmage for Penn State Football.

Site of the Week

Ah, spring when the thoughts of a young man's fancy turn to...football?

Paul Reeths is the kind of man who believes that the USFL (1983-1985) was a great experiment and celebrates the legacy of the United States Football League on the Web. Who can forget the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars vs. New Jersey Generals holy war? The woeful Washington Federals? It is all here, the teams, the players, and the ugly uniforms.

Announcement

Today, I verbally accepted a position with the Online Service Bureau of Gannett in Rosslyn, just across the Potomac from Washington D.C. I will start on April 18, four months to the day after I graduated from Penn State.

Site News

I have started the conversion to Daylight Savings Time on this Web site and in the process I have altered some of the bottom navigation. I am much happier with this small redesign - less white space at the bottom that was caused by the Validated XHTML image. More changes are coming soon!

The Post - Netscape 6 Browser Unveiled
Interesting article, they claim marketshare is not a big deal and you know what? They must believe that because since the last major update of Netscape, they have tumbled to 20%. Ouch.

Sports News

ESPN.com - Nittany Lion Takes it All!
The Lion won the mascot challenge over Bucky Badger by less that 0.1%. Thanks to all who voted!

The Collegian - Connecticut's defense shuts down Penn State
The Lady Lions best season to date came to a close at the hands of a UConn squad on a mission. I watched some of the game, PSU was simply overpowered, but they did put up a bigger fight the the Lady Vols did in the final.

Site of the Week

Basketball season is over and in all the madness, I stumbled on to former PSU star John Amachei's Web site, Meech.org. An interesting site, Meech is England's greatest basketball player and currently representing the alma mater well for the Orlando Magic. He also scored the first basket of the century in the NBA.
