75 years since the Hindenburg disaster

I have mentioned several times that I enjoy blimps and used to spend some time in Lakehurst, N.J. area. On this day, 75 years ago, the Hindenberg exploded and crashed there at what is now Lakehurst JFB. Hanger 1, which would have housed the Hindenberg during its stay, is still an active airship hanger.

Erosion not terrible on LBI

After storm, beaches are “not too bad” – APPThere is less beach and steeper drops along Long Beach Island, but at least the nor’easter did not come a week earlier:
If the storm had struck during a new moon high tide on May 5, it could have been roughly a once-in-25-years storm instead of the approximately [...]

Weekends at the Jersey Shore

Erica and I are taking a long weekend down the Shore, but don’t worry WWN Pentagon City bureau chief Fritz will keep the Nats coverage going in my absence.
If I were in town, I might go to the Arena Stage garage sale (Baseball on the barn too) and see if they were selling any [...]

Oh the humanity!

Yesterday was the 70th anniversary of the Hindenburg disaster (On this Day, The Times) in Lakehurst, N.J. at the Naval Air Station there.
I spent a lot time in Lakehurst over the years. At one point both sets of grandparents lived in a retirement village on the outskirts. Airships are still part of the local [...]
