It is not terribly surprising to learn from today’s Post that Virginia is the vanity plate capital of the country. Here at Metroblogging DC, we have noted vanity plates on several occasions.
In the Commonwealth, 1.4 million cars, 18.5% of all those registered, are sporting customized plates, which cost an extra $10 annually. In Maryland, vanity tags go for $25 a year, while the District they go for a whopping $75, which explains why they are not too common on that side of the Potomac.
Virginia residents can see if the vanity plate of their dreams is still available by going to the DMV’s “Create a Plate” Web page. They have scores of specialty plates, covering seemingly every college and special interest too.
So, what is the best vanity plate you have seen?
