Until this morning, I had never heard of Terrible Traffic Tuesday. Judging by a quick Google search, this name for the day after Labor Day appears to be unique to BeltwayLand. Oddly enough, neither of my commutes today (around the southwest corner of the Capital Beltway) was any worse than it had been in the last few weeks. I suspect this because I am commuting suburb to suburb rather than suburb to D.C.

My experience says that Terrible Traffic Tuesday appears to be more hype than reality, much like Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) not actually being “busiest shopping day of the year” most years. I think Black Wednesday probably is the busiest travel day of the year though.

It’ll probably be much worse tomorrow.
