Rain prevented the Nats from playing the Mets in a night game. Unexpected day off in spring training — good. In Viera, even better.

The unfortunate part of the postponement was a chance to see John Patterson pitch in a live game was lost. He will pitch in an accelerated spring training game today.

I guess these media events are starting to get tiresome for the print media, because I haven’t seen any coverage of yesterday’s cherry tree plantings from the “print editions” of D.C.’s two broadsheets. Lots of blogger coverage though! has a Nationals Park section.

There is a bit of a logjam in the middle infield with Cristian Guzman, Felipe Lopez and Ronnie Belliard vying for the shortstop and second base jobs. Bret Boone is also making his presence known with a .571 batting average. My guess — Guzman and Belliard are the starters at short and second, respectively.

Presumed #2 catcher Johnny Estrada had a cortisone shot in his elbow. He can’t do anything but run right now.

Team officials suggested that even if Estrada is hurt by the time Opening Night arrives they still want last year’s #2 Jesus Flores in AA, but reserved the right to change their mind.
