Willingham’s Gamble Nets Nationals a VictoryThe Post
Willingham’s chance caps Nats’ rallyThe Wash. Times
Josh Willingham won a game that had a gotten away from the Nationals and John Lannan with heads up baserunning. In the eighth, trailing 4-3, Ryan Zimmerman, pinch hitting for Alberto Gonzales, hit a ball just under the glove of Reds rightfielder Chris Dickerson. Adam Dunn scored the tying run. Cincinnati 2B Drew Sutton, who retrieved the ball, lobbed the throw into the infield. Willingham saw that and turned for home, taking out catcher Ryan Hanigan who was leaping for Joey Votto‘s relay. It was a sweet play and the game winner, but unfortunately, the MLB video of it barely includes Willingham scoring.

Willingham also homered and had a 2 RBI double.

The Nats are 11-5 in August.
