Zimmerman Makes His Case for a Gold GloveThe Post
Nationals Insider: Zimmerman in elite companyThe Wash. Times
Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman is as well regarded at his position as anyone in the game, but he has two things holding him back from winning a gold glove — 15 errors and playing for a last place team. There are two other numbers to keep in mind — he leads the league in chances and he has “13 Web Gems” on ESPN’s Sportscenter, the overall MLB leader. His 30 game hitting streak earlier this season, first All-Star appearance and latest walk-off home run shouldn’t hurt either.

Nationals’ bullpen may undergo more changesThe Wash. Times
After two in-season rebuilds, the Nats bullpen is respectable, but GM Mike Rizzo wants to keep improving it. Good, it still needs it. Had D.C. had an average bullpen, it would have at least ten more wins than now.

Shortstop Desmond, four pitchers and coach coming upnationals.com
Your September callups: Ross Detwiler, Marco Estrada, Logan Kensing and Zack Segovia and Ian Desmond. All of them, save Desmond, a shortstop, are pitchers. Desmond is now finally in the big leagues, five seasons after his strong spring training. He struggled in the minors up until this year after hitting .400+ well into March in spring 2005. He even played in the exhibition game against the Mets that year and then disappeared from D.C. fans’ radar. He has a big opportunity here to make an impression, since there is a great deal of talk about moving Cristian Guzman to second base.

Detwiler returns after halving his ERA in AAA Syracuse to a respectable 3.10. Marco Estrada, who was awful out of the bullpen in his 2008 cup of coffee, is now a starter. Segovia has a respectable sub-4 ERA while Kensing is under 3 after a terrible stint here earlier this season.
