Winter is ending, but a big weekend of pickup broomball, March 30 and 31, awaits Washingtonians with three public sessions in Northern Virginia.
Capitals Iceplex, Arlington
In preparation for their summer broomball league, Medstar Capitals Iceplex has a “free event to learn the game” with a limit of 50 registrants on Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 in Ballston.
Public broomball returns in June with Saturday evening pickup games June 15, 22 and 29 at 7:10 p.m.
Broomball players of all ages have two opportunities for small rink play at the Medstar Capitals Iceplex (formerly Kettler) onto of the Ballston public garage on the afternoons of March 30 and 31 at 2 p.m. There are typically kids and adults playing, sometimes in separate games, other times together. Bring your own helmet — a bike helmet will do. Cost is $15.
St. James, Springfield
Capitol Broomball has another pick-up game on Saturday, April 20 at 6 p.m. at The St. James.
Capitol Broomball is hosting a second full-ice pick-up game at the beautiful new facility (pictured above) on March 30 at 6:00 p.m. at The St. James. The March 16 game featured dozens of players from the league as well as first-timers. Equipment and gear is provided. Cost is $20 per player, adults only.
The spring Capitol Broomball season is still under development, but stay tuned for more details.
I have compiled a Google Calendar of DC area broomball. Other sessions will be added as they are announced. Check with the rink to confirm times, availability, etc.
