Autumn DC Kayaking officially arrives on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 3:20 P.M. EDT. Lower temperatures and humidity (eventually) make it a wonderful time to go for a paddle. Many kayaking locations remain open into October and maybe even November. Updates to kayaking rental map as warranted.

The last 16 months have been great for kayaking in the Washington D.C. area – since June 2020, the only months that kayak rentals haven’t been available are last December, January and February.

Boating in DC 2022 passes on sale

Season passes purchased now can be used immediately in addition to next season. That could be kayaking in eight different if the weather cooperates.

Full disclosure: I purchased my first season pass in September 2017. I routinely “pay it off” by June 1. I have also rented from Penguin Paddling, Belle Haven Marina and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.

Bay Bridge Paddle

The Bay Bridge Paddle returns on Sunday, September 26. Last year’s event was postponed due to COVID-19. This year’s event was only confirmed fairly recently. Price range: $65 – $110.
