The last third of the 2022 DC Kayaking season is underway. As always, the passing of Labor Day means the DC Kayaking map starts turning a little red. Fortunately, there are still over 20 places you can rent the kayak along the Potomac, Anacostia, Occoquan and Patuxent rivers as well as the Chesapeake Bay.
Late summer and autumn is a great time to get out on the water. The humidity goes down and those clear days are spectacular. It sure beats watching Dan Snyder’s franchise stumble to another 9 or 10 loss season.
Four Mile Run kayak cleanups
ALEXANDRIA, Va. —Two more Four Mile Run foundation kayak cleanups are on the calendar:
- Saturday, September 10, 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Sunday, September 18, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Registration is free – I participated the last two years and enjoyed both the stewardship and the kayaking. Unfortunately, Four Mile Run can use all the help. Nevertheless, this is a fun way to help make the community a better place.
Kayaks launch from Alexandria near the end of Commonwealth Ave.
Bay Bridge paddle registration closes September 20
Kayaks and paddleboards launch from Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis. Three courses are offered. I have not participated yet but it looks fun. One of these years, I hope to get out for it.
