CHICAGO — The Signature Room (web site) is a great value for visitors wishing to see Chicagoland from 1,000 feet above street level.

Located in the John Hancock Tower on the 94th and 95th floors, the Signature Room does not have a “cover charge.” Rather than paying $35 to $40 for admission to an observation deck, you can order a drink here for half that cost.

I went with an Old Town Old Fashioned for about $18. My view was to the west and sunset over Chicagoland.

The 94th floor is a dining room and there is dress code. Gentlemen, remembered your collared shorts. A turtleneck and sports coat is probably sufficient.

The 95th floor, where I sat does not have the strict dress code. If you want a skyline view, try to get a table on the south side.

The Signature Room is accessed from the entrance below street level off of Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile.
