In February, Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail added their namesake to Google Streetview.

We will continue to update Google Street View throughout the year so trail users can see the trail change across seasons. Mapping the Mount Vernon Trail is only possible via the support of donors who helped purchase a GoPro Max camera. We use this camera to document the trail and volunteer events.

FOTMVT also added The Arlington Loop to Streetview. Going clockwise, the Arlington Loop is a 17ish mile combination of Custis, Mount Vernon, Four Mile Run and Washington & Old Dominion Trails.

Making the MVT better all year long

Nearly every week of week of the year, FOTMVT is improving the Mount Vernon Trail through volunteer efforts. In 2022, FOTMVT hosted 47 volunteer events! It’s mid-March and nine volunteer events are completed.

I try to get out at least once a quarter to an event. Sometimes it’s removing kudzu or other invasive plants and trail edging. One time I helped cleanup after flooding. The group also power-washes the decks of wooden bridges on the trail and removes trail bumps. They also share news about the trail.
