WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Friday, my 15 year-old and I biked over to the Navy Yard Harris Teeter where Washington Nationals player Lane Thomas was appearing. We got a quick photo with outfielder as well as Racing President, Abe.
In passing, I mentioned to Thomas that I needed the Nats to take the series over the San Francisco Giants so I could have bragging rights over my friend in the Bay Area.
Thomas said he’d take care of it, or something similar.
A big weekend for Thomas, Nats
The Nats won swept that series, a first since 2021, and Thomas came up big.
His line (from ESPN Box Score):
Date | OPP | Result | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | SO |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sun 7/23 | vsSF | W6-1 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Sat 7/22 | vsSF | W10-1 | 5 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
Fri 7/21 | vsSF | W5-3 | 4 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
On Sunday, Thomas also stole 4 bases, made a back-handed catch going to the wall and doubled-up a runner for his 9th assist.
The man backed up his promise.
Perhaps I asked for too little — if I see him again I’ll ask for something more, like a winning season, playoffs or World Series.
I guess he’s my favorite active National now.
Highlights
In these lost seasons, we need to enjoy these brief moments of victory. First series sweep since 2021!
